We were thrilled with the overwhelming response to our Spotlight Academy last year! Academy classes offer students the opportunity to grow and develop their skills, while working with industry professionals with impressive experience! We are expanding our offerings to give experienced students the opportunity to train at a more advanced level. All students in 2nd - 12th grades are encouraged to sign up annually to join Spotlight Academy, which will entitle them to the following benefits:

  • Academy Classes- Musical Theatre Skills Level I or II, On-Camera Acting Level I or II, Improv, Guitar
  • Discounted Christmas production session registration
  • Free registration for our Audition Workshop in January
  • Priority for our Spring Production audition time slots (audition time slots do fill up each year)
  • Discounted Spring production registration
  • Priority invitations to participate in additional acting (stage, video, film), singing and worship opportunities that come up throughout the year.

Academy classes will be Thursday evenings and enrollment is limited. Classes will be small groups and focused training for developing student's personal technique and skills. Students will be approved for Level II classes and Improv based on leader evaluation and commitment to attendance. Please review the Academy Absence Policy/Request Form- CLICK HERE.

  • Musical Theatre- Hone your triple-threat skills as we recreate show-stopping numbers from Broadway's biggest hits! Each week will include vocal and dance warm-ups/exercises before we hit the floor to learn choreography and vocals. Over the course of the class, we will cover proper theatre dance technique, the basics of safe singing, character development, theatre vocabulary and showmanship for the stage.

  • On Camera Acting- Are you ready for your close up?  Be on-camera ready for television, film and video projects. In this class you’ll work with actual commercial, television and film scripts and learn the techniques essential to performing them on camera. Learn how your own unique personal characteristics, experiences and emotions can bring words on the page to life unlike anyone else! These skills can be used to enhance your stage performances as well.

  • Improv (for students in 6th grade and up)- In this class you’ll learn how to turn unexpected moments into comedic genius! Improv is a GREAT way to build the important acting skills of listening and genuinely reacting to what’s happening in each moment of a scene.

  • Guitar- We will be offering Level I and Level II guitar for beginning students and students who would like to advance their skills. Students will work with Calvary's own amazing Worship Leaders!

  • Piano- We will open a NEW piano class if we have enough interested students.

For our Christmas session, we will be performing an original mini-musical production in all church services on December 10th and 11th, rehearsals will be Monday evenings and Saturday afternoons (not all students will be required at all rehearsals). Please review the Fall-Christmas Production Contract- CLICK HERE, prior to registering.
