Elder Introduction

Calvary has a new Elder, Ryan Liljegren

Calvary is governed by a Board of Elders who are selected to oversee the ministry and dealings of
the church. The role of an Elder is to search God’s Word, seek God’s face, pray and fast in order to
guard and guide the church. To become an Elder, names of potential candidates are submitted
by staff, church leaders and members of the body. The names are screened for qualifications
listed in 1Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 5:9, plus leadership, previous involvement at and commitment
to Calvary. Interviews occur and invites are extended to those who have been selected to begin
attending Elder meetings as interns for the next six months. Following the period of instruction
and preparation, the Elders present final candidates to the body. The body is encouraged to
express themselves regarding each candidate.

Ryan Liljegren and his wife Kim have been married for 14
years. They met as camp counselors at Hume Lake Christian
Camps when they were introduced by a freshman camper
on the last day of camp. In a moment of pure inspiration,
Ryan asked Kim on a date and to his surprise, she accepted!
They were married two years later. They have three children,
Colin (8) Audrey (6) and Ian (3), who keep them busy with
math club, sports, music, and dance.

Ryan spent his childhood in Fresno, and moved to Agoura in 1982 when his dad
became music and discipleship pastor at Agoura Bible Fellowship church. He attended
Azusa Pacific University, graduating in 1995 with a degree in Business Administration.

Ryan is a financial planner with Ameriprise Financial, based in Woodland Hills. He has
been with the company for over 16 years. Ryan’s wife Kim is the Conejo Valley Area
Coordinator for Moms in Prayer, an organization of mothers who regularly pray for
their children and the schools they attend.

Ryan feels that God has led him into the business world, but has given him a heart for
ministry. From a ministry standpoint, Ryan has led worship for adults and youth, he has
been leading a small group at Calvary for about six years, and has mentored several
men. He currently leads a Bible study that meets on Friday mornings. Ryan is also on
the board of directors at Stillpoint Family Resources.

Ryan has been sitting in with the Elder Board for the past six months and is very
excited about what God is doing through the new vision at Calvary. He is particularly
excited about seeing the Calvary body grow deeper in their walk with Him, and seeing
Calvary’s children’s ministry continue to grow as a place where kids can learn the truths
of scripture in a dynamic and fun environment.
